About CBD
What are cannabinoids?
When people hear the word cannabinoids, for most, the first thing that springs to mind is cannabis. And although it is true that the phytocannabinoids (phyto=plant) found in abundance in the cannabis plant are the most well-known, there is also another class of cannabinoids.
These are called endocannabinoids (endo=inside), and are cannabinoids produced by your own body, and they play an important part in keeping our bodies happy and healthy (you can read more about it here).
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one type of phytocannabinoid commonly found in the cannabis plant. CBD is a safe, non-addictive, non-intoxicating cannabinoid. CBD is also one of the most researched of all the cannabinoids with an ever increasing body of scientific research showing that it has a wide range of potential beneficial properties and therapeutic uses.
What is the Endocannabinoid System?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is your body’s very own cannabinoid producing system and made up of a complex system of cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoids and metabolic enzymes.
The ECS is the body’s universal regulator and it’s main job is to help keep your body in homeostasis or a state of balance so that it can function at its best. The ECS is also responsible for regulating different physiological processes such as sleep, mood, appetite, memory, immune responses, and fertility.
What can I use CBD for?
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has only approved one cannabis based product thus far, called Epodiolex for the treatment of two rare forms of epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome or Dravet syndrome. Epodiolex is a whole-plant CBD extract and is the first FDA-approved, non-synthetic drug actually made from cannabis and legally sold in the U.S.
In general, CBD is effective for helping maintain optimal health, physical and mental wellbeing, emotional balance, and relaxation. It is also widely used for relieving common issues that are linked to excercise and other daily activities.

What is the difference between full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate?
Full-spectrum CBD contains all the cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and other beneficial compounds found in the cannabis plant. Many people consider a full-spectrum CBD products to be more therapeutically active because of the entourage effect (read more about that here).
A CBD isolate, on the other hand, is exactly that, an isolate form of CBD that is almost 99% pure and doesn’t contain any other cannabinoids, terpenes or plant compounds.
What is the difference between cannabis, marijuana, and hemp?
What is the difference between “hemp oil”, “hemp seed oil” and “Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil”?
Hemp oil is usually a type of extract made from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. As such, it contains all the cannabinoids, terpenes and other beneficial plant compounds you can expect from a full-spectrum, hemp-derived CBD extract.
On the other hand, hemp seed oil is made from the seeds of the hemp plant, with Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil is just the scientific name for it. Hemp seed oil doesn’t contain any CBD or other cannabinoids. However, it is rich in omegas and other types of beneficial compounds, making it great as a carrier oil or used in topicals.
