Acapulco Gold Terpene Cocktail

Refreshingly sour with a touch of heat, our Acapulco Gold terpene cocktail is an ode to one of the most recognized cannabis cultivars of the 1960s.

  • Tastes Like: Refreshing citrus with notes of chili and spicy-sweet aromas
  • Terpene Infusion: Beta-caryophyllene
  • Beta-caryophyllene Aroma: Spicy-sweet with woody, clove-like notes.

In the 1960s, Acapulco Gold was a legendary cannabis cultivar. Its signature gold color and “mind-blowing” properties resulted from perfectly adapting to its climate, dried by the blazing Acapulco sun and the cool Pacific winds of the Guerrero Mountains.

Acapulco Gold was so popular that it even became a countercultural symbol, inspiring authors to weave its name into popular legends, like the Greek tale of Eris and The Golden Apple.

In their tongue-in-cheek version, Discordian authors took another look at the infamous Golden Apple presented by the mischievous Goddess Eris to her peers Aphrodite, Athena, and Hera. Their theory? It was actually made of Acapulco Gold!

Like it’s legendary cannabis namesake, our Acapulco Gold cocktail recipe reinvents the classic margarita with a peppery terpene kick. It inspires feelings of hot summer days with the cool, lingering notes of a Gulf Breeze.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • 3/4 oz lime
  • 1/4 oz simple syrup*
  • 1/2 oz grapefruit juice
  • 2-3 drops beta-caryophyllene terpene
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 oz grapefruit soda or beer
  • Tajin for rimming glass
  • Orange slice or peel for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker except for grapfruit soda/beer.
  2. Shake for 10-12 seconds.
  3. Strain into a tajin rimmed Collins glass over ice.
  4. Top with grapefruit soda or beer.
  5. Garnish with half-moon or peel. Cheers!

*Simple syrup: Measure equal parts (1:1) sugar and water. Heat the water first (boiling isn’t necessary) and then add sugar until dissolved. Let cool, and store in a glass container in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.

Rich simple syrup: For a thicker, heavier syrup, simply adjust the proportions. Many bartenders prefer a 2:1 sugar-to-water ratio.

Disclaimer: Though isolated terpenes don’t contain THC or CBD, they’re still very potent and should be used carefully. When making your cocktail, use only 1-2 drops per 8 oz.

Think of terpenes as even purer forms of essential oils. They’re compounds found in cannabis and many other plants, and they’re responsible for their aromas, flavors, and physiological effects.

About Beta-Caryophyllene

Beta-caryophyllene is a spicy-sweet terpene with a woody, cinnamon, and clove-like aroma. It is found in black pepper, oregano, green, leafy vegetables, and many cannabis varieties.
